Maya enjoyed riding her young stallion. He had the easy stride of his sire and Paloma had done a good job teaching him to be both obedient and relaxed under saddle. He also had lovely form over fences, and Maya and Paloma had been schooling him over 3' fences with much success. And here they were at his first show, ready to start their simple baby greens course. Maya picked him up into a steady, even canter, and turned him towards the first jump. Theo locked onto the jump, but didn't speed up, and they popped over easily. One, two, three, four, five strides and Theo took off over jump two. Maya struggled not to grimace; despite how relaxed he felt, he'd over jumped by what felt like a foot. Maya couldn't help gripping with her knees a little, but she didn't get left behind. "It's ok," she thought to herself, "He's just a baby, and it's just one jump." Focusing more intently, she half halted with her seat and looked towards the third jump.
